Pearsalls Silk Mania

Last week me and a friend went to Flyhook Filler, an fly tying shop with loads of nice materials. I mean, who hasn’t been looking for Lama dubbing?

The owner Mats-Ola was kind enough to give us an original Pearssals chart and a really nice box for your spools. It is notable how the colour of  spools you can buy today differ from the old ones. Also on display in the shop is feathers, a lot, I suppose more or less ALL feathers ever used for fly tying in modern times.

Quick stop at the club lake

Took an early afternoon and went to Lillesjön to try a new rod. The Eikre Venator 10’3″ #4 is intented to be used for nymphing but I will mostly use it for upstream wet fly fishing. Really liked the rod and tested it with Cortland Sylk #4. Nice combo for midge fishing. I have the 9’9” #3 at home as well and will try that out, don’t have a 3 line though.

Anyway, the fish were rising, as always in Lillesjön. When I got there the fish were rising very close to the shore so I did not go out on the wooden pier. Instead I put on a Black spider, Stewart style. Took a few casts before I got out the fly in the correct position just in front of the end of the pier. Figure-of-eight retrieve, slow, and I hooked the first rainbow. Managed to get a few more on small midge shuttlecock before it got too dark.
